Golden Light Photography Jamaica
There is a particular quality to photographs made in Jamaica. Something in the warmth of the light, the unhurried pace, the way the island has a way of making people feel genuinely at ease. A couples session here produces images that look nothing like studio portraits. They look like two people, fully present, somewhere extraordinary.
Whether you are here on a honeymoon, celebrating an anniversary, newly engaged, or simply want photographs that capture you both in one of the most beautiful places on earth. This is what I do. I come to wherever you are staying, I know the light and the locations, and I work at a pace that produces images worth keeping for the rest of your life.
What a session looks like
Couples photography
A couples session in Jamaica works for almost any occasion. Honeymoons, anniversaries, romantic trips, destination celebrations, or simply wanting photographs that look the way the trip felt. Most couples I photograph are visiting from the United States, Canada, or the UK and are planning their session before they arrive. The process is straightforward: we discuss timing, location, and what you're looking for, and I handle everything from there.
Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes. Long enough for a variety of locations and moods, short enough that nobody feels exhausted. I work across the entire island. Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, and everywhere in between. If you are staying at a resort, I come to you. If you want to explore a specific location, we plan it together.
Engagement sessions
There is something about being newly engaged, in a place this beautiful, with nothing else on the agenda, that produces a particular ease and joy in front of the camera. The best engagement portraits do not look like portraits at all. They look like two people, deeply happy, somewhere extraordinary.
Engagement sessions in Jamaica work beautifully as a standalone experience, a memory of the trip itself, and also as pre-wedding photography if you are planning a destination wedding on the island. By your wedding day, you already know how to move together in front of a camera, what feels natural, and what to expect. That comfort shows in every frame.
Popular locations for engagement sessions in Jamaica include the Negril cliffs at golden hour, Seven Mile Beach, the grounds at Half Moon Resort and Round Hill in Montego Bay, and private villas island-wide. I advise on the best location once I know where you are staying and what kind of images you are looking for.
Where we shoot
Negril, Seven Mile Beach & the Cliffs
Seven Mile Beach is the most iconic couples photography location in Jamaica. The sand, the turquoise water, and the west-facing beach that catches the most dramatic sunsets on the island. The Negril cliffs are the alternative: limestone dropping into deep blue water, cinematic and striking. Both are at their best in the hour before sunset. For a Negril couples photoshoot, I recommend planning at least two weeks ahead during peak season.
Montego Bay, resorts, beaches & villas
Montego Bay offers the widest range of settings for a couples photoshoot in Jamaica. Half Moon's private beach and manicured grounds are consistently among my most-requested locations. Round Hill Resort, set on a 110-acre peninsula west of the city, offers tropical gardens, whitewashed cottages, and a quiet private beach. Tryall Club provides a 2,200-acre estate backdrop with historic architecture. I am a preferred vendor at all three properties, which makes access straightforward.
Rose Hall Estate
The Rose Hall estate east of Montego Bay encompasses several distinct settings. The Palms, The Aqueduct, the historic Rose Hall Great House, and Cinnamon Hill Great House where Johnny Cash once lived. The combination of eighteenth-century Georgian architecture and sweeping Caribbean views produces some of the most distinctive couples photography on the island. I am a preferred vendor across the estate.
Jamaica Inn, Ocho Rios
One of the most quietly beautiful hotels in the Caribbean. A small, private property on its own cove east of Ocho Rios. The white-columned verandas, cobalt-blue sea, and unhurried atmosphere make it a particularly elegant setting for intimate couples sessions. Winston Churchill and Noël Coward both stayed here; the sense of a particular era of graceful Caribbean life is still very much present.
Private villas, island-wide
Some of the most intimate couples photography I produce happens at private villas. Clifftops in Negril, beachfront properties in Discovery Bay, hillside estates above Montego Bay. The villa is entirely yours, the setting is personal, and the images look completely different from resort photography. If you are renting a villa, a session on the grounds is worth considering seriously.
What to wear for your couples photoshoot in Jamaica
Neutral and pastel tones photograph better than bright primaries or busy patterns against Jamaica's saturated landscape. White, cream, soft blues, sage, and warm terracotta all work beautifully.
Flowing fabrics such as linen, chiffon, and lightweight cotton move naturally in the sea breeze and photograph with elegance on beaches and clifftop locations.
Coordinate rather than match exactly. Aim for a colour family rather than identical outfits. It creates cohesion without looking like a uniform.
Bring a second outfit. Even a simple change adds variety to your gallery and keeps the session visually interesting.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book a couples photoshoot in Jamaica?
Two to four weeks is usually sufficient for couples and honeymoon sessions. During peak season from December through April, book as early as possible after your travel dates are confirmed. Availability fills quickly. For engagement sessions tied to a specific date or location, more lead time is always better.
What is the best time of day for a couples photoshoot in Jamaica?
The hour before sunset, what photographers call golden hour, is the best time for couples photography in Jamaica. The light is warm, directional, and deeply flattering. It wraps around subjects rather than flattening them and gives the images that warm, glowing quality that Jamaica is known for. I plan every session around this window.
What is the best location for a couples photoshoot in Jamaica?
It depends on where you are staying and what mood you want. Seven Mile Beach in Negril is my most-requested location for couples. The sunset light there is extraordinary. The Negril cliffs are the cinematic alternative. For couples in Montego Bay, Half Moon, Round Hill, and Tryall Club are all exceptional. I advise personally based on your location and the look you are going for.
Can you photograph at our resort?
Yes. I photograph couples sessions at all major Jamaica resorts. Some properties charge a vendor access fee for outside photographers. I know every resort's policy and will advise you clearly before booking. I am a preferred vendor at Half Moon, Tryall Club, Rose Hall, and Round Hill Resort, meaning access at these properties is straightforward.
Is an engagement session worth doing in Jamaica?
Yes, both as a memory of the trip itself and as pre-wedding photography if you are planning a destination wedding here. Couples who do an engagement session before their wedding day always arrive more relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. That comfort shows in the wedding photographs in ways that are genuinely hard to replicate otherwise.
How much does a couples photoshoot in Jamaica cost?
Sessions start at US$500 for the first hour, with each additional hour at US$300. All sessions include no limit on delivered images, professional editing and retouching, a private full-resolution online gallery, and full print rights. Full pricing details are available on the pricing page.
